Getting started
How do I get Wordof?
Wordof works on the web today at app.wordofapp.com. The iPhone app is in beta through TestFlight: leave your email on the home page and we’ll send you the invite. Android comes later.
Can I look around before signing up?
Yes. Open the demo to try Wordof with sample friends. Nothing you do there is saved.
Do I need friends on Wordof to start?
No. Scan your photos or stamp a few places and you have a passport to share. Your friends’ places appear as they join. Once your first friend joins, places their friends recommend appear too.
How does the photo scan work?
On iPhone, tap Scan. Wordof reads only the date and location attached to your photos, on your phone, and groups them into cities and trips. It then suggests the places you likely went, and you choose for each: stamp it, keep it private, or not me. Nothing is saved until you confirm. The scan runs only when you tap it.
Can I bring in places from WhatsApp or Google Maps?
Yes. Tap Stamp, then Bring in your places. Paste a friend’s message (press and hold it in WhatsApp, then Copy), and Wordof picks out the places it names and any map links. For your Google Maps lists, download them from Google Takeout (choose only “Saved”) and choose the file. You decide for each place: stamp it, keep it private, want to go, or skip.
Can Wordof remind me to stamp places?
In the next iPhone beta update, yes. Switch on “Ask me to stamp places I spend time in” in Settings. After 30 minutes or more somewhere, Wordof asks if you want to stamp it. Never at night, at home or at work, and at most twice a day. Your location history stays on your phone.
Your places and privacy
Who can see my stamps?
Only people in your circle. Friends of friends see your stamped places through someone you both know, and you can turn that off in Settings. Nothing on Wordof is public. See the privacy policy.
What does “keep private” mean?
You went, but it stays only in your passport. If you went because of a friend’s stamp, Wordof may ask whether to let that friend know. They hear only the place name, and only if you say yes.
Does Wordof track my location?
No. Location is used while the app is open, to show what’s near you, and it isn’t stored. If you switch on stamp suggestions, your phone notices longer visits on its own; only the spot you left is looked up to name the place, and nothing is kept on our server.
Safety and your account
How do I report someone or something?
In the app, open the person, stamp or ask and choose Report. We review reports within 24 hours. You can also block anyone.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: You, then Settings, then Delete my account. Everything is deleted for good.
How do I leave the waitlist?
Email support@wordofapp.com from the address you signed up with.
